Double champs Sperrin enjoy spectacular season

SPERRIN Pool team are celebrating a remarkable season in Coleraine Pool.

Captained by Lee Caulfield, the team concluded a memorable campaign by winning the Tennents Coleraine Pool League title.

The Sperrin also lifted the Knockout Cup to complete a fantasticleague and cup double.

As well as that, Sperrin players enjoyed another highly successful Coleraine Festival of Pool, played at their home club.

Lee Caulfield and Billy Moore won the Doubles, Dijon McCorkell became the new Under-23 Singles champion and Raymond Stockman retained his Seniors title.

In the 147 Individuals Allen Tosh was the runner-up to winner Marc Hutchison while Billy Moore was a beaten semi-finalist.

So it’s congratualions to big Lee and his terrific team on a dream year. Sperrin wish to thank everyone at the club and also Robert Downes of the 147 Club for his continued support.

Not only have Sperrin players excelled in the Coleraine League but Billy Moore, Lee Caulfield and Raymond Stockman chalked up an unprecedented hat-trick of league and cup titles across Northern Ireland.

The trio were part of The Gers team which won the Larne and District Pool League and also The Sharks Team which won the League Championship in Bangor.

The boys were drafted in for many of the big matches throughout the long winter season, playing many of the top players in Larne and Bangor.

Raymond Stockman told Times Sport: “We have done something that no other three players have managed to achieve - win cup and league titles in three different leagues in the same season.

“I dare say it’s the first time that’s been achieved in Northern Ireland and maybe the last, although we will try to repeat the feat next season.”

So congratulations to all the Sperrin boys - Tommy Morrow, Paul O’Connor, Neville Smyth, Dijon McCorkell, Raymond Stockman, Lee Caulfield (captain), Billy Moore and Allen Tosh.

* Under-23 International Team trialist for 2013, Dijon finished third and was selected to play for Northern Ireland under-23s A at the European Pool Championships in Bridlington in March.

* Selected for the Nations Cup in Malta this November.

* Qualified for the Northern Ireland Masters to be played in Bangor in June.

Raymond Stockman

* Finished top in the Northern Ireland Seniors trials, winning flights, accommodation and cash and selected as captain of the Seniors A team for the European Pool Championships in Bridlington.

* Selected to play for the NI Seniors A team at the Nations Cup in Malta this November.

* Currently lies fourth in the NI Seniors Tour with one event to play.

* Qualified for the Northern Ireland Masters to be played in Bangor in June.

Tommy Morrow

* Ranked No1 in the Northern Ireland Pool Association Open Tour, winning events one and two in Coleraine and Bangor respectively.

* Omagh Open Individual Tour winner in March.

* Won snooker’s Nevin Cup at his first attempt this year.

* Won 23 out of 25 matches in the Coleraine Tennents Pool League this year, including the play-offs.

Billy Moore

* Finished fourth in the NI Men’s trials.

* Selected for the NI B1 team for the Nations Cup in Malta.
