Dunluce up to third as the leaders drop points

Dunluce were at home to St. Mary’s and in a sizzling first half St. Mary’s had no answer to the power of Alastair Kirkpatrick and Barry Kane (both Dunluce) who had big wins against Jordan Mullan and Declan McCann (St. Mary’s) respectively.

St. Mary’s dug in after half time and made it much tougher for Dunluce. David Gaile (St. Mary’s) and Uel McKeeman (D’luce) finished on ten shots apiece and in the last game Rodney Kane (D’luce) and Liam Ferris had nine shots each.

St. Colman’s travelled to Loughanreagh in a match which the home team had to win.

This they duly did, albeit by just a single shot. The visitors got off to a good start with David Walker beating Ian Ross (L’reagh) 13-10. Edwin Irwin edged the home team in front beating Paul McCook (St. Colman’s) by five shots. Aaran Tennant (St. Colman’s) then beat Alastair Steele (L’reagh) to swing the balance back in St. Colman’s favour but Alan Irwin came to the rescue of Loughanreagh with a three shot advantage over Martin McAleese (St. Colman’s).

Second Kilrea took on Ballinrees, desperately looking for a win to move them away from the lower regions of the league table. However, it was the visitors who went home the happier. Ivan Smyth (K’rea) beat Jonathan Calvin (B’rees) by two shots.

Uel Gordon (B’rees) squared the game beating Margaret Johnston (K’rea) 12 shots to 10. Brian McGrath put Kilrea in front when he won by one shot against Victor Millen (B’rees) but William Calvin secured the overall win for Ballinrees with a three-shot victory over Nicky McCaw (K’rea).

Boveedy did themselves no harm at all with a very good away win against Dunloy Presbyterian. Robert Sufferin put the visitors on the score board, beating David Caldwell (D’loy) 9-6. Alan Catherwood (B’veedy) made it two nil at the break with a win against Andrew Sayers (D’loy).

Mark Shaw pulled a game back for Dunloy when he had a two shot advantage against Doughie Morrow (B’veedy). Ashley McCahon put the icing on the cake for Boveedy with a single shot win over Thomas Paul (D’loy).

With both Finvoy Presbyterian and Moneydig winning their respective matches by the same margin it is as you were in Division 2.

Moneydig was at home to First Coleraine and won comfortably. Brian McFetridge (M’dig) was up against John WeeKs (C’raine) and won 17-5.

Trevor Workman (M’dig) beat Bryan Shaw (C’raine) 14-5. The second half was much tighter and Clifford McLernon put the visitors on the board with a one shot win over Willie Knight (M’dig).

J. Campbell almost got a second point for First Coleraine but lost the last end to go down by three shots to Alan McAleese (M’dig).

Drumreagh hosted Finvoy Presbyterian but the visitors went home with six points. Drumreagh won the first game when Raymond Clyde beat Donna McCloy (F’voy) 13 shots to five.

Chris Jones levelled the game for Finvoy with a two shot victory against stand-in skip Andy Campbell (D’reagh). Finvoy showed their dominance in the second half with Gary McCloy and Adam Hunter beating Edwin Jackson and Aubrey Walker (D’reagh) respectively.

New Row was up against Castlerock. Jonathan Elder set New Row on their way with a 14-2 win over Victor Callaghan (C’rock).

Freddie Monaghan (New Row) got the second point, beating Brian Wilson (C’rock) 16 shots to 12. Castlerock fought back well in the second half and Ronnie Steele put them on the score board with a two shot win against Sammy McArthur (New Row).

They got a second point when Jackie Hutchinson beat Joe Elkin (New Row) 9-7, but it was not enough to give them the extra bonus points.
