CHAMPIONSHIP: Ports hoping for a change of luck in 2013

PORTSTEWART made the short trip to Castledawson to take on Wakehurst in the League on Saturday.

It was a day of missed chances for Gary Taylor’s side as they had two goals disallowed as Wakehurst walked away with a 1-0 win.

Portstewart started the game well dominating the play.

However a lapse in concentration saw Wakehurst taking the lead after just give minutes.

Ricky Dunlop, James Peden, Owen Peden and Paul Millican all had good chances to level matters before the break, but they failed to beat an on-form Wakehurst keeper.

In the second half, Portstewart keeper Joel Maddison was a mere spectator. He had little to do as his team mates battled hard in search of an equaliser.

Danny Austin hit a fine shot from an acute angle, but the home keeper dealt well with the winger’s effort.

In the 70th minute, Taylor’s men had a goal ruled out for offside. Luck wasn’t on their side as another goal was ruled out for a push on the keeper.

The final score ended Wakehurst 1-0 Portstewart.
