Chance to close the gap on Cliftonville

The game is a definate six-pointer says manager Gary Hamilton whose team lie five points behind the Reds.

“It’s another big game for us,” says Hamilton. “It is another test and challenge for the players.

“Not so long ago it was all about not getting beaten too heavily or hoping for maybe a point.

“Now we have a team that on their day are a match for any team in the league.

“We are not over confident, but we don’t fear anyone. Usually we have not had a problem in these types of games, it has been in games against Dungannon, Warrenpoint and Carrick that has caused us most problems.

“Even last year we struggled in the Irish Cup, first at Moyola and then going out to the Welders.

“Dropped points against Warrenpoint and defeats to Annagh United earlier this season are a big reminder of where we need to improve.

“If we can secure a win over Cliftonville on Saturday it would be another big step in the right direction and you never know where results like that can take you.

“Again, it is simple, we have to match their desire and hunger and hopefully get on top. The aim is not to concede because against the top teams it can be very tough to claw it back.

“If the boys can put in the same effort of recent games and with a little bit of luck we can keep our momentum going.”

In November the Department of Arts, Culture and Leisure (DCAL) issued for consultation a document entitled “Sub-Regional Stadia Programme for Soccer”. The document outlines how the Department intends to spend some £36m over the next few years to support the development of a number of football related projects.

As part of the consultation process DCAL will hold an open meeting on Monday 18th January at 7.00pm in Craigavon Civic Centre where there will be an opportunity to speak with DCAL officials.
