Gregg gutted by late goal

INSTITUTE manager John Gregg was extremely disappointed after his side suffered late JJB Sports Irish Cup heartache at Glenavon, on Saturday.

Tony Grant's 87th minute winner saw the Lurgan Blues book their place in the last eight of the prestigious competition, much to Gregg's disappointment.

"Marty Quinn's an experienced manager and he said to me 'it's a cruel, cruel game John, you didn't deserve that'," he said.

"We came down here with a young side, went a goal down and fought our way back into the game. Before their winner, Joe McCready put one past the post and Kevin Ramsey hit the post.

"We've had a tough year; there's been times I've gone into the changing room and said we've made mistakes and we haven't been honest. I look for honest performances but I can't say anything bad about the players' effort.

"Personally I feel like I've had a good kick in the midrift."

Gregg also felt that his side did more than enough to at least get a draw but he's long enough in the game to know that these type of set-backs are part and parcel of football.

"I was gutted for the players because they didn't deserve to lose the game, in fact after equalising just before the break we pushed on and played very well in the second half. However I also remember last year at Cliftonville whenever they battered us for the entire second half but we ended up drawing the match, so I suppose what comes around goes around, but to be honest that doesn't help me.

"Nevertheless considering we had so many players missing I have a lot of positives I can take from the game. Young Joe (McCready) did well again and scored a super goal, while David McClements, who is a natural winger is doing well up front.

"While at the back David Ogilby is starting to get back to his usual commanding ways, unfortunately he couldn't make a tackle which led to their winner, but that was the only mistake I think he has made in a number of weeks."
