The Kells teenager has left Glentoran, where he was captain of the reserve team, in the hope of breaking into the senior ranks.

The 19-year-old former Milk Cup midfielder has agreed a one-year deal with the Lurgan side.

Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton said: “He’s a player who stands out head and shoulders at Reserve team level and who has impressed me every time I’ve seen him.

“He’s got huge potential for the future but is also a player for the present and he will be an important addition to our first team squad next season.”

During his time at Glentoran, Samuel captained the Oval side’s second string to Steel & Sons Cup final victory over Ards at Christmas, before the east Belfast side were stripped of the trophy after it was discovered they had played an ineligible player earlier in the competition.
