Rampant Southside rack up another 12 goals

SOUTHSIDE Youths continued their scintillating form in the Belfast & East Antrim Youth League with a 12-0 demolition of Newington on Saturday.

At the unfamiliar setting of Wakehurst Pitch 3 and against the only team in the league that Southside had not already played, manager Colin Stewart approached the game with a certain amount of caution to assess what they had to offer.

Concerns were immediately dismissed as early as the third minute when a trademark Sam McNiece thunderbolt flew under the body of the visitors keeper to put the Southside boys ahead.

Josh McCready made it 2-0 on 10 minutes when he placed a superb left wing shot into the top corner.

David Calderwood made it 3-0 on 20 minutes when he out jumped the on rushing goalkeeper to head into the empty net and on 30 minutes it was 4-0 when Leon Bonnes latched onto a cross field pass from McCready and calmly slotted home.

Immediately from the restart Sam McNiece added his second to make it 5-0 when he rifled home from just outside the box. Ryan Stewart added number 6 when he reacted quickest to hammer home from close range.

Number seven was scored on 50 minutes when Corey McDowell brilliantly placed his left foot shot well beyond the diving keeper.

Sam McNiece completed his hat-trick and an almost complete personal performance with number eight on the hour before Ryan Corrigan added another on 61 minutes when he shot across the keeper into the far corner of the net to make it 9-0.

Ryan Corrigan crossed the ball hard and low on 63 minutes and watched his cross deflect off a Newington defender for number 10 before Jordan Kirk added number 11 on 65 minutes when he fired home from the edge of the box.

David Calderwood completed the demolition with his second latching onto a Dylan Hamill pass making it 12-0.

This was a game dominated from start to the finish by Southside and goals from eight different players in the Southside team indicate just how strong this squad of players are as their march pursuit of the league title continues.
