Rangers settle for draw with Knockbreda

Carrick Rangers’ pre-season programme continued on Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Knockbreda.

The game was played on the new 3G Development pitch at Taylor’s Avenue and for manager Michael Hughes it was a chance for him to cast an eye over his new-look side.

Aaron Harmon was arguably Rangers’ best player on the day, adapting well to a role in the heart of the midfield. There was also positive performances from Gary Haveron and striker Rory McGilloway while local lad Jonny Addis - who featured for Carrick in the Premiership - continues to show real potential.

Rangers didn’t have it all their own way, however, as a confident Knockbreda side created several first-half opportunities.

It was the visitors who broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark when former Linfield and Dungannon Swifts man Miguel Chines latched on to a long ball lobbed Simon Steele in the Carrick goal.

Rangers restored parity right on the stroke of half-time when Harmon unleashed a fierce drive which arrowed in to the top corner.

The lively Ashton McDermott had a strong penalty appeal waved away by referee Gary Scott when he appeared to be felled in the area.

Chines edged Knockbreda back in front when he was afforded too much time and space in the box and he made no mistake with the close-range finish past substitute keeper Stephen Brennan.

Carrick’s response came inside two minutes when Addis threaded a delightful through-ball in to the feet of former Rosario striker McGilloway and he showed real composure to slide the ball home.

Carrick Rangers: Steele, West, Kelly, Haveron, Bell, McDermott, Taggart, Cash, McGilloway, Harmon, Ylimaz
