Reserves eye semi place

UNITED Reserves face Championship Two side Dergview at the Showgrounds this Saturday, with a place in the semi-finals of the Wkd Intermediate Cup at stake.

"It will be a tough test but the chance to reach a semi-final is a big incentive," said Reserves boss Colin Sewell.

"The further you go in the Intermediate Cup, the tougher it gets because once a player reaches 12 senior appearances, he is ineligible to play for us in the competition, but our young lads are really looking forward to this one."

Thirds' cup reign over

BALLYMENA United Thirds' reign as Harry Cavan IFA Youth Cup holders is over.

Melvyn Logan's side lost 2-0 to Glenavon III in Saturday's quarter-final.

Line-up is revealed for Legends event

THE line-up has been revealed for the eagerly-awaited 'Carling Presents an Evening of Legends' event featuring Ballymena United on Tuesday, February 24.

The event, in the Des Allen suite, will give United fans a chance to get up close and personal with Ballymena heroes of yesteryear Arthur Stewart, Eddie Russell and Norman Clarke along with current club captain Gary Haveron.

The event is part of league sponsors Carling's package and will visit all 12 senior clubs.

Fund-raising diary dates

UNITED fans are being urged to support either one of two forthcoming club fund-raising events on Friday February 26.

Councillor Maurice Mills has organised an Ulster-Scots 'Gietherin', featuring Willie Drennan, in Cullybackey High School, with tickets priced at 10.

On the same night, the Paramount Supporters' Club holds its monthly table quiz in Ballymena Bowling Club. More details on both events next week.

Bottle incident is probed

UNITED officials have been asked for their observations on the incident during the recent game at Coleraine where two plastic bottles were thrown onto the pitch from the section of the ground housing Ballymena fans.

The case has been referred to the IFA's Disciplinary Committee and United are expected to be fined.

Share deadline is extended

THE deadline for purchasing shares in Ballymena United has been extended.

United officials have revealed a good take-up on the initiative, which has so far raised in excess of 15,000.
