Garvey felt it was a game they should have won. After only ten minutes, Jenna Flynn had put them ahead with a well struck short corner.

Garvey had much more of the territorial play from this point on but Lurgan scored ten minutes later with a rather fortuitous deflection on a rare break into Garvey’s circle.

Despite the Lurgan goal, Garvey continued to play well but couldn’t capitalise on their many chances due to a good performance from the Lurgan keeper. Garvey finished the first half strongly but were disappointed that the score remained equal.

The second half started with Lurgan pushing hard to try and establish a foothold in the game. Although they had some territorial advantage early in the half, the Garvey defence remained very solid and Lurgan created no clear cut chances on goal.

Garvey continued to lift their collective game and created various goal-scoring opportunities but after some poor finishing and another few impressive saves from the Lurgan keeper, were unable to take advantage of their excellent attacking displays.

The Garvey keeper had not had one save to make throughout the match, but in the final few minutes, on a breakaway Lurgan slotted home the winner against the run of play.

Although Garvey continued to push forward, again the girls could not find the net, which turned out to be their downfall having dominated the majority of the game both in terms of quality of play and goal-scoring opportunities.
