A fairytale ending to the day for Vivienne and Valerie

The Lady Captain at Lisburn Golf Club, Mrs Sylvia McKelvey, welcomed ladies from many visiting clubs to the annual Open Greensomes competition at Lisburn.

The Captain extended a special welcome for the sponsor Mr Sam McBratney, author of the children’s series of books ‘Guess How Much I Love You’.

Sam’s generous sponsorship of this competition is much appreciated by all the members but particularly by the winners, who this year received a selection of Sam’s books including a first edition of his latest book entitled ‘There, There’.

This year all the main prize winners came from within the Lisburn membership, which was perhaps indicative of how tricky the course was playing.

The longest drive on the 14th hole was won by Lynne Anderson, Knock GC, with nearest the pin at the fourth going to Patricia Clarke.

In fourth place was Ann Gowan and Maureen Bryson on 39 points who were pipped on the better back nine by Marie Hegarty and Liz Hill also on 39 points in third spot.

In the runners up position was the Lady Vice-Captain Gil Colvin and her partner Ena Roulston with a score of 43 points.

But the winners with a superb score of 45 points were Vivienne Walsh and Valerie Rooney - well done to them for a terrific round of golf.
