With excellent weather and the course in pristine condition, high scores were always going to be the order of the day and it was no surprise when Craig completed his round with a magnificent 44pts. After scoring pars at the first and second, Craig took an unbelievable eight at the third, but made a fantastic recovery, hitting five pars and a birdie over the next six holes to give him 21 pts at the turn. Birdies at the 10th and the 17th and a further five pars took his back nine to 23 pts and a well deserved victory.

Peter Taylor (15) also parred the first two holes but he hit a double bogey at the 3rd, par at 4 and then disaster with a triple bogey at the 5th and another double bogey at the 7th. Game over you may have thought but a birdie at the 7th was the beginning of a remarkable comeback. Peter then went on to par the next seven holes before a slight set back when he hit another double bogey at the 15th, but he recovered and parred the last three holes to give him a final total of 43 pts and second place.

Another player who has been in the mix regularly is club secretary Darren McShane (15). Darren took third place after a count-back when he and Bobby Meehan (20) both finished on 42 pts. The highlight of Darren’s round was a birdie at the 8th and the rest was a neat display of steady golf with no worse than a five on his card. Bobby’s card was a bit more dramatic with a no score at the par three 5th and a disastrous triple bogey at ten followed by a double bogey at 11. Best Gross was won by Michael English. The Wednesday Hat was won by Paul Nelson (7) with a very impressive 41pts. Paul’s round included three birdies and 11 pars. Next week it is back to stroke play and the competition is sponsored by Ritchie Gorman Kitchen Design.
