Doherty comes out on top at Prehen

CITY of Derry Ladies River Inn Open Stableford Competition at Prehen on Tuesday (June 11) was won by Deborah Doherty (21) after she scored 37 points.

Second after a break of tie finish was Lorna Thompson, (17) who scored 35 and Ciara Quigg (14) also scored 35 points to claim third.

The Gross winner Naoimh Quigg (3) scored 27 points the nines went to Vivienne Houston (7) and Lesley Mulgrew, Redcastle’s Jenny Flanagan (14) won the visitors prize after she scored 32 points; Nearest the pin was five handicapper Amy Chambers and the special visitors’ prize went to Clare Johnston.

While the Redcastle Ladies golf club confined competition played on Monday, June 10 was won by Nuala McQuaid (25) who scored 39 points, second was Lyn McOwan (27) who scored 34 points, this Saturday’s competition is Lady Captain Mary McArthur’s Captain’s Day.

Meanwhile the temperature wasn’t the only thing sizzling at Redcastle on Saturday, June 8.

Jim Burns posted a superb 44 points to claim first prize at Redcastle Captain Danny Carlin’s Captains Day.

Danny Carlin’s popularity as captain was demonstrated with an excellent turn out by members, guests and past Captains.

Kevin McQuaid scored an excellent 39 points to claim second prize and Paddy Canning scored 37 points to finish in third spot after a break of tie finish.

Gross prize went to Willie Havlin with 31 gross points. Tommy McCauley scored an excellent 23 points to claim the front nine with John Comey scoring 23 points to claim the back nine.

Past captains prize proved to be keenly contested with Desy Carton winning with a score of 36 points. Seamus McGeehan won the committee prize also with a score of 36 points.

Visitors’ prize went to D Curran with a great score of 39 points, the Ladies nine hole competition was won by Gladis Curtis with 22 points, second place with 19 points went to Nuala McQuaid.
