Dominic rises to the challenge

The winner came from a group of four players who finished with 40 points, it was Dominic Marsden who came out on top.

Dominic had 19 points on his front nine with three pars, and six single bogeys. His back nine of 21 points had four pars and five bogeys to win on a better back nine.

In second place with 40 points was Barry McCabe who had 20 points on his front nine with six pars and only three bogeys.

His back nine of 20 points included two birdies at the 14th and 18th holes, two pars at the 13th and 17th holes, one double bogey at the 16th hole and four bogeys.

Third place went to Michael Frazer again with 40 points. Michael had seven pars and nine bogeys on his card, with two costly no-scores at the 3rd and 15th.

The gross prize again went to Fintan McAreavey with yet another sub-par round of golf, this time a two under gross score of 70.

He had a front nine of level par with two birdies, two bogeys and five pars. His back nine of 35 had three birdies at the 12th, 17th and 18th holes, one bogey and five pars for another impressive round.

Fourth place went to Gerald Beattie with 40 points. He had a front nine of 22 points with one birdie, four pars, three bogeys and one double bogey at the 3rd hole. His back nine contained one birdie at the 10th hole, one par, five bogeys and two double bogeys.

Fifth was Gerald Totten with 39 points. The senior winner was Brian Brady with 38 pts.

The junior winners were 1st Nathan Thompson 38 pts, 2nd Dara Morgan 35 pts.

Section winners: 0-12 Philip McConville 39 pts; 13-18 Thomas Feehan 39 pts; 19-28 Eamon Nelson 38 pts.

The return leg of the Seniors tie against Banbridge in the Des Gregg Trophy at home proved a very dramatic finish.

Having pulled back the deficit to evens all depended on the last pair playing the last hole. However a Silverwood player hit the wrong ball and it was all over.

The Seniors were in action again with Armagh hosting the 3rd round of the MUSL.

Again the team did well to finish a creditable fifth and move up to fifth in the table.

It is with sadness the club learned this week of the untimely death of Gary Murphy who worked on the course as part of the greens staff. The members and committee pass on their deepest sympathies to his entire family circle.
