Kerr blimey! Round of the week seals Ulster title for Peter

Dunmurry Golf Club members were delighted to see their own Peter Kerr, a member of the Belfast and District squad, win the Ulster Boys’ Championship at Castlerock Golf Club earlier this month.

Peter follows in the footsteps of several stars who won the coveted title in the past. World Number One Rory McIlroy lifted the trophy in 2003 and 2004 and Graeme McDowell is also a past winner in 1996.

Dunmurry’s 17-year-old Irish International produced the best round of the competition, a brilliant final round 69 to catch and then pass John Murphy (Kinsale), to add his name to an already impressive list of former winners.

Peter, an RBAI student, started his final round four shots behind Murphy in a share of third - he went to the turn in one under 35 courtesy of a birdie at the par five fifth.

He continued to play some flawless golf over his closing nine and while his opponents struggled, he collected further birdies at the 13th, 16th and 17th to win by two shots. His scores for the tournament were 78, 70, 76, 69 for a total of 293.

Peter then continued his impressive form with a third place in the Connacht Boys Open at Roscommon Golf Club last week, thanks to rounds of 72, 72, 74.

There was no rest for Peter this week either as he headed off to Mallow to take part in the Munster Boys, aiming to continue his great success so far this summer.
