Open week at Foyle

OPEN Week got under way at Foyle on Saturday last with the J.K.C. Specialist Cars open Stableford competition taking place.

With the 105 competitors enjoying the fine condition of the Ballyarnett course and this was reflected by the excellent scoring on the day.

Peter Doherty made full use of the Conditions to post an excellent winning score of 46 points to become the first winner in Open Week John McDowell took the runner up spot with a fine 42 points, with the fast improving Lawerance Powell in third with 40 points.

The gross winner was Paul McGuigan who scored 39 points and Ballyliffin’s Ciaran McDermott (14) with 36 points won the visitor’s prize.

Kevin McBride (8) with 22 points claimed the back nine after a break of tie finish. The CSS was 35 points.

The Paul’s Butchers open stroke competition was won by Frank Doherty (14) after he scored nett 67, second was Darren Jennings (8) who finished with nett 68 and Sean McEleney (25) with nett 68 was third.

Gross winner was Paul McGuigan who scored 72 points and Seamus McLaughlin (15) with nett 35 won the back nine after a BOT finish. The CSS was 72 points.

Last Friday’s Open at Foyle was claimed by Steven Gallagher (20) after he scored 43 points and Lawerance Powell (7) with 42 points was second after a BOT finish.

An 19 teams turned out for the Annual 18 Hole Scramble and barbecue on Friday evening and again the scoring was excellent.

First was Donal Hasson, Robert Gallagher, John Coyle and Shiela McLaughlin who finished with 53.8 points, second were Cormac McGeady, Joe Doran, Kevin McDaid and Michael Gallagher after they finished with 54.9 points and Martin Campbell, Kevin Thomas, Tommy Bryson and Darren Bradley scored 56.2 points to claim third spot.

The club’s open week continues until Saturday, with the Open Stableford including Ladies 9 Hole competition sponsored by McCartney & Co taking place today (Wednesday), while tomorrow the Foyle Ladies Club sponsored ladies stableford including men’s 18 hole competition takes centre stage.

On Friday, the Rankin Machine Tool Services sponsored open stroke competition and also includes a nine hole ladies competition, while on Saturday the City Cabs open stableford competition will finish the week off.
