Open week continues at Foyle

THE annual Open Week at Foyle got underway on Saturday in perfect conditions with 220 plus competitors taking to the pristine Ballyarnett fairways.

Anthony Griffin (27) used the favourable conditions to strike a blow for the high handicappers with his maiden Open victory albeit after a break of tie decision over Darragh Glynn (11).

Both players finished with 41 points and Ciaran McGuinness took third place with 39 points again after a break of tie.

The gross winner was Cormac McGeady after he scored 34 points, Strabane’s Gerald McNally (23) with 38 points won the visitor’s prize, Gerald Toland (23) with 25 points won the back nine and Nikkie Fallon (32) with 39 points won the ladies section.

The Annual 18 Hole Scramble & Bar-B-Que took place at Foyle on Friday evening with 18 teams enjoying a very pleasant event with the competition enjoying a birdie fest.

Coming home in first spot went to Kevin Dunn, Cormac McGeady, Michael Grey and Gay Shaw after they scored 54 points, second were Niall McGuinness, Joe Flanagan and Alison Elkin after scoring 55.1 points and John Duffy, Martin Tope and Ciaran O’Doherty with 55.7 points was third.

Foyle Golf Club President Mr Rob Gallagher invites all club members to play for his Presidents Prizes on Saturday, July 20 and everyone taking part are asked to enter their names on the sheet provided in the golf reception before Monday, when the draw for playing partners will take place.

Open Week continues today (Wednesday) with the McCartney & Co Accountants Stableford competition taking place, tomorrow sees a Ladies Club Stableford competition, Friday sees the KNN Stableford competition and the City Cabs Mens stableford competition is on Saturday.
