Valentine's day success for McDermott at Prehen

Having dutifully delivered the flowers, proffered the chocolates and whispered the sweet nothings in the ears of the nearest and dearest the City of Derry golfers did the decent thing and headed straight for the course.

Top of the pile at the end of the day was Tom McDermott (20) whose brilliant 41 points will surely bring him to the attention of the handicapping committee!

In second place Sunday Society captain Eamon McCourt (7) had to rely on 36 points with a superior back nine to thwart the challenge of society stalwart Clive Brolly (13). Clive spent a restless few hours needlessly worrying if he had forgotten to sign his card. He had signed but his story illustrates that you can 'never' be too careful when completing golf's little formalities.

John O'Doherty (12) compiled a neat 35 point total to take fourth place and Prehen's Number one Wilf Abel (20) grabbed fifth spot with a 34 point total. The last prize of the day went to Robert McClay (22) with 33 points.

Tickets for the 2010 Fund Raiding Draw are now on sale. Priced at 90 each and with a prize fund of 36,000 sales have been brisk to date. Included with every ticket purchase are two free rounds of golf on the Prehen Course at City of Derry Golf Club.

Meanwhile the captain of the Sunday Society, Eamon McCourt wishes to remind members to book their tee times on line, via The City of Derry website, as times are now at a premium on a Sunday.

There will be a Cabaret with Gene Fitzpatrick, dancing to Them2 on Saturday, February 27, while on Saturday, March 27 and another cabaret with Jim Brown and The Elvis Spectacular dancing to The Big Davy Band will take place and admission to both events is 5.
