Grasstrack event at Glenoe

AS we pass the halfway point in the Carrickfergus Club-promoted Watt Motorcycles Grasstrack Championship, Round 3 of the series was to be staged at McCormick's farm on the Ballylesson Road, outside Glenoe yesterday (Wednesday, from 6.30pm).

The circuit was one of the favoured venues among riders and spectators in the 2009 championship, due to its very fast nature, and with a similar layout this year they are in for more of the same.

Gordon Crockard, in the Expert Class onboard his Watt Motorcycles Kawasaki. Crockard, was the fans’ favourite, but he would face stiff competition from fellow Watt Motorcycles backed riders Tommy Merton and current championship leader Wayne Garrett (TSR KTM).

In the two-stroke race Charles Stewart was hoping to add to his current 100% per cent record, six wins from six starts in this class on his 250 Motoxads.co.uk/Watt KTM. Richard Watt, who holds second place in the championship, was attempting to put a stop on Stewart’s dominant display and also extend his lead over third-placed David Kinkaid.

The championship has provided spectators with some of the fastest and most competitive racing of this season and well worth a trip down to Glenoe on Wednesday evening. Admission is just 5 per adult with kids under 14 free. With admission you will get free parking within the venue and the official event programme. Practice will be at 6pm followed by racing at 6.30pm and will run on until around 9.30pm.
