It’s now time to get serious

Glebe Rangers continued the build up to the start of their Championship 2 campaign with a pre-season friendly against Coleraine Crues and Coleraine FC.

Following a couple of games where they notched up a total of 18 goals they came crashing back down to earth when a below par performance saw them lose 5-3 at the Joey Dunlop Centre.

Manager Jason Wilmont was far from happy with his side .

“We were horrendous, it was a really bad performance. We couldn’t handle their front three at all and we missed a lot of chances and none of their players should be pushing our boys off the ball the way they were.

“I think a few boys were out over the holiday period and they paid the price for it. We also lost Willie Beckett at half time because he wasn’t well. It was obvious when he arrived for the game that he wasn’t well but he tried to stay on as long as he could and I ended up bringing him off at half time.”

Having come back from three goals down to 3-2 it looked like the Glebe were going to be able to salvage something until Coleraine Crues added two more late in the second half.

“I thought when we got to 3-2 we could come back and win the game, “added Jason. “The we gave away two goals, it was like the red sea parting, our defnse was non existant.

“There’s no doubt they were up for it and they deserved their win. The only shinning light was young Paul Lyttle. He’s only 16 years old but he stood out head and shoulders above anyone else. “In a way maybe losing this game was the wake-up call they needed. I tore strips off them afterwards and they knew were they went wrong. I said that if we played like that against Coleraine we would be annihilated. I don’t care what the score is against Coleraine as long as they put the effort . It’s not about me or them, it’s about the club and the badge. It’s about showing some heart and desire and I have told them if they get that right then good things will happen.”

Despite having signed ten new players, Wilmont is still on the look out for more players.

“I need a centre half, we miss big Chris Nicholl’s presence and height so much.

“It really is time to knuckle down and get serious. We can’t afford to adopt the approach we had against the Crues. The start of the season is too close.”
