Kristin hits the target

IT has been quite a year for local archer Kristin Lundy.

The Portstewart girl capped it off on Sunday when she won the All-Ireland Girls Cadets Outdoor Championships at Bouchers Road, Belfast.

This followed her bronze medal at the Junior Euro Nations event in County Meath last month.

Not bad for someone who only took up the sport just two years ago!

“It has been unbelievable,” said Kristin, pictured above receiving her medal.

“This year has been brilliant for me. I can’t believe how much I’ve come on in such a short space of time. It has been a massive jump, I just want to keep it going now.”

The Dominican College student is a member of the highly successful Causeway Company of Archers and only got involved in the sport to act as a chaperon for her brother.

“He wanted to try it our and I went along with him,” explained the 15-year-old. “The rest they say is history, I just loved it. The coaches at the club are really good.

“They are so encouraging to everyone and it pays off. You can see that with the amount of success we’ve had over the years.”

Kristin has two more big dates coming up in her diary soon. She is waiting on confirmation that she has been selected for the National Indoor Championships, which will be held in Coventry at the start of December.

And Kristin has also been shortlisted in the Junior Sportswoman category for the forthcoming Ballymoney Sports Awards.

“Yeah it’s going to be an interesting couple of months for me,” she said.

“It’s really nice to be nominated for such an award and hopefully I’ll find out soon about my place at the Indoor Championships.

“I’d just like to thank my family and all my coaches for helping me get to this level, I couldn’t have done it without them.”
