Local trio pick up first of new council’s awards

The awards for July, August and September, sponsored by Team Wear Ireland, recognised the achievements and dedication of sporting stars in the council area and all three went to Lisburn based competitors.

The winners who were selected from July to September 15 included; swimmer Leah Bethel from City of Lisburn Swimming Club who who was the winner of a number of events at the Irish Swimming Championship in July; Abbey Fusco from Lisburn2gether Special Olympics Club who represented Ireland in the four nations para-badminton event in Wales in August and athlete Diane Wilson from Dromara who won the Ben Nevis Fell Running Race in September.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee said: “I would like to congratulate the winners of the Sports Personality of the Month Awards on their superb accomplishments in their chosen sport.

“I am extremely proud of the sporting successes in the Council area and recognise the hours of training and dedication which goes into playing at a competitive level.

“I would like to wish the award winners every success for future competitions as they represent the City of Lisburn & Castlereagh on a national and international stage.”

The winners are selected each month by the Sport Lisburn & Castlereagh Committee and a £100 voucher is awarded to each successful winner.
