Loughgiel’s big weekend

THE North West 200 isn’t the only bike race taking place this weekend, with many of those more interested in pedal power than motor power heading to Loughgiel for the Clinivet sponsored Rás Loughgiel 2 day stage race organised by Duffin Transport Racing Team.

With 80 riders entered this race is sure to bring a buzz of excitement to the village. The Clinivet Ras is for A4 racers and is regarded as the toughest A4 race on the cycling calendar and a proper cycling test for all involved.

Duffin Transport cyclist Oliver Bateson said: “We have the cream of A4 racers from across Ulster entered and I can guarantee it will be a strong rider who wins this race. There will be a 30 mile Road stage around the roads of Loughgiel on Friday night which is really just a warm up for what is to come on Saturday.

“On Saturday the second stage will consist of a short Time Trial with all 80 riders facing off against the clock. The queen stage though comes on Saturday afternoon with a 50 mile road stage taking the riders up Reservoir Road and over Orra Mountain on their return to the finish in Loughgiel. This stage will provide a worthy winner to the race.

“We have put out notices to alert residents along the route to the fact that the race is taking place but we expect disruption to be kept to a minimum. I would ask road user on the roads to be alert to the fact that the race is taking place and obey the instructions of the race marshals. We would like to thank in advance those who are coming out over the weekend to help us put the race on and in particular we would like to thank Cinivet our sponsors for the race.

Steven McGarry of Clinivet said: “CLINIVET is always keen to support local events and is delighted to be the brand partner for the Duffin Transport Racing Team 2 day event taking place in Loughgiel. This is the second time this event has been run and the event was fully booked only after a short time of the date being released. CLINIVET’s management team wish the organising committee of the event every success and a safe weekends riding.”
