Perennials make visit to Coleraine Rugby Club

Charity rugby touring team the Perennials came to Coleraine recently and played a very entertaining match against a Coleraine Senior Select XV.

The Perennials were formed 25 years ago with a view to enjoying playing rugby and to raise money for charity – and ever since they have enjoyed great success on the field and in fundraising in tours across Ireland and much further afield.

In fact they have raised in excess of £400,000 through their rugby events and the biggest single donation went to NI Cancer Fund for Children to purchase a mini bus. There have been many other recipients including NI Childrens’ Hospice, Chest heart and Stroke, CRY, Alzheimer’s Society and Rotary International.

On 12 October the Perennials played at Coleraine. On the day Paddy Johns (Ireland, Lions, Barbarians) joined the team and alongside him were many other well known players from across the province. Special mention goes to Dennis Fusco, Civil Service, playing at 75 years of age and topping another perennials stalwart John Black, City of Derry, playing at a youthful 69.

Perennials president Colin McKee was welcomed by Coleraine president George Neely. A great day was enjoyed by both Coleraine and Perennials players.
