Springwell juniors compete at Indoor Championships

Springwell Juniors were in action on Saturday at the NI & Ulster Indoor Championships held in the Meadowbank Stadium, Magherafelt.

Girls Under 12 60m: Stephanie Forsythe-Wilson 1st in her heat in 9.61 and Anna Bonner 6th in her heat in 10.47.

The 600m were run as a time trials.

Boy’s Under 12: Andrew Gordon 5th overall in 1.57.15.

Girls Under 12: Emma Elder 28th overall in 2.28.37.

Boy’s Under 13: Andrew Guy 15th overall in 2.04.41.

Girls Under 13: Mollie Spence 11th overall in 2.08.03.

Girls Under 19: Holly Clarke 60m 1st in 8.30 and 200m 2nd in 26.52.

Boy’s Under 19: Jack Dunseith 60m 2nd in 7.31 and 200m 3rd in 25.08.

Well done to all the young athletes, for some this was their first taste of indoor athletics.

The final race in the Sperrin Harriers Winter League took place on Saturday over the 10 mile Lough Fea course.

Delfin Pimentel (59:04) and Eilis McKechanie (64:06) were the major prize winners.

Springwell’s Paul Thompson had an excellent run coming home 4th in 62:24 followed by Jim Breen 66:26 (1st MO55), Thomas Moore 67:43, David Jackson 67:49, Gary Kendall 68:07, Gerard Mullan 68:11, Cathal McFeeley 71:54, Alison Rankin 72:02 (1st FO40), Hugh Deighan 74:11, Nicola Fizelle 78:13, Michael Rankin 84:01, Kay Hack 84:17, Mervyn Thompson 84:42, Davy Patterson 84:58 and Betty Deighan 89:04 (1st FO50).

Thanks to Sperrin Harriers for the welcome cup of tea at the end and an excellent series of races.

The first race of the 2012 Fell Running Season took place at Slieve Gullion on Saturday. Colin Brennan was Springwell’s sole representative at the race finishing 23rd in 46:46.

The race was won by Deon McNeilly of Newcastle AC in 38:36 with Ciara Largey leading the ladies home in 44:52.

The Albertville 5 got the 2012 road racing season under way on Saturday. Strong winds helped and hindered the runners as they tackled the course round the Duncrue Industrial Estate. Springwell’s Johnny Wilson completed the 5 mile course in 31:12.
