Supermoto NI Championship revs into action

LAST Sunday at Nutts Corner Market track saw the first round of the Supermoto NI club championship. The bitterly cold day didn’t put off the riders or the spectators. A tough day of racing was in store for the riders with sleet/snow falling during some of the races.

The first race of the day was the Prestige quad class. Islandmagee’s Colin Forsythe qualified on pole with Omagh’s Mark Donnelly and last year’s champion Cathal McCartan close behind him. Mark Donnely won all 3 races of the day, Colin was 2nd in the first and final race of the day and Cathal was 3rd in both of those races and he got 2nd place in the second race.

The Prestige solo class was dominated by Lisburn’s David McKee as he won all three races. He even won the final race of the day from the very back of the grid as he was late getting to start line. Philip Wylie had to settle for 2nd place in all three races. Bruce Drummond pushed hard to get 3rd in the first race and Ryan Fenton got the final step of the podium in the other two races. It was an unlucky day for 2012 prestige champion Mark Spratt as he got a puncture in first race and crashed out of the 2nd race injuring his hand.

The Clubman quad class saw a lot of newcomers take to the track. Niall McCullagh got pole position for the first race. He won the first two races of the day and 2nd in the final race. Conor McGaughey won the final race of the day and 2nd in the first two races behind Niall. Pauric Mohan was 3rd in first race and Deividas Gordonay was third in final two.

The next Supermoto action of the year is the first round of the Ulster Supermoto Championship at the ever popular Nutts Corner Kart track on Sunday April 14.
